LAKESIDE HAVEN

A home where bold architecture, natural materials, and thoughtful lighting come together to celebrate one of Wānaka's most spectacular lakefront settings.

Set on the shores of Lake Wānaka, Lakeside Haven is defined by its sculptural timber roofline, expansive glazing, and carefully crafted interiors. Every lighting decision was made to complement the architecture, revealing the home's warmth, texture, and form while allowing the design itself to remain the focus.

A standout feature of the project is the collection of bespoke Mr Ralph iO Shade pendants, by New Zealand designer Mat MacMillan. Handcrafted from sustainably sourced New Zealand plywood, the pendants echo the timber palette throughout the home. A composition of drum and fluted shades transforms the soaring stairwell into a sculptural focal point, while a trio cluster in the living room, and above the kitchen island, anchors the heart of the home. Their placement was meticulously considered, ensuring each piece sits in perfect harmony with the home's strong architectural lines.

The lighting experience begins well before you step inside. As dusk falls, subtle façade lighting highlights the home's rich timber detailing, while integrated LED strip lighting guides visitors along the entry stairs, creating a warm, welcoming arrival without distraction.

Throughout the home, discreet fittings from the incredible Halcyon Cevon range - including R798 Art Spots, R545 Tiltable Downlights, and R570 Keyhole Minis - were carefully selected and installed to disappear into the architecture. Every beam angle and fitting was chosen with purpose, delivering comfortable, low-glare light that enhances the space without competing for attention.

For us, Wanaka Lakeside Haven is a perfect example of what a thoughtful lighting design can achieve - not by adding more light, but by knowing exactly where it belongs. The result is a home our clients absolutely love, where every architectural detail is celebrated, every arrival feels special, and every space tells its own story.
